Energy efficiency

We ran a project in 2006-7 to improve energy efficiency in the area. Improved energy efficiency reduces global warming and saves money.

There are lots of sources for energy-saving tips.

The Go MAD competition aimed to help people make their homes more energy efficient. Local people who had done something at home to save energy were entered into a monthly draw. The prizes were energy efficiency aids (such as insulation, low energy light bulbs and wind-up radios) supplied by South Gloucestershire Council. The Council also helped with producing a leaflet that included the entry form. The Thornbury Gazette gave generous coverage of the winners and printed a series of energy-saving tips.

At the same time we ran the How Low Can You Go? energy reduction challenge for businesses and other organisations. The challenge was taken up by local Councils and churches.
