EcoFair - Aims and Ethical Statement

Aims

Our community is facing major social and environmental challenges: through increased energy, travel and food costs; and longer-term through the impacts of climate change.

The aim of our EcoFair is to inform local people in Thornbury and the surrounding area, in a fun and entertaining way, about practical local ways to move to a low carbon lifestyle, which will enable us to meet these challenges.

• We want to prepare ourselves for the impact of future change and to help build a sustainable community - one which can thrive and be resilient whatever the challenges.

• We want to raise environmental awareness through creative activity.
• We want to to engage the local community in green issues and positive solutions.
• We want to have fun together!

Ethical Statement

In keeping with our stated aims for the EcoFair, we would ask all traders to take account of the following guidelines:

• We expect all goods for sale to have been produced ethically e.g. fairly traded or produced by yourself/your organisation;
• We would expect waste to be kept to a minimum, e.g. paper (preferably recycled) used for carrier bags, serviettes etc.;
• We would not expect any goods to have been tested on animals or to contain any products linked to carcinogens;
• We would expect any food served to be organic or local (free-range), preferably both;
• We would expect tolerance and respect and an absence of discrimination in keeping with Sustainable Thornbury’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
